Waco-Based Firm Recalls 74,000 Pounds of Beef for E. Coli Contamination

Waco-based H&B Packing Co., Inc. has recalled roughly 73,742 pounds of boneless beef products for possible E. coli contamination.

About the H&B Packing Beef Recall

According to CBS-DFW, the product covers a 60-pound box and multiple combo bins containing boneless beef produced on March 6, 2017.  Both the box and the combo bins are marked with the case code 69029.

While there have been no confirmed reports of illnesses linked to the products, FSIS and H&B Packing Co., Inc. are urging customers to dispose of or return of the possibly contaminated beef.

The beef was shipped to food manufacturers throughout Texas.

Symptoms of E. Coli Infection

The following information was provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):

• coli normally results in illness between 2-8 days after contaminated food is ingested.
• Infection results in diarrhea (often bloody) and abdominal cramps. These symptoms tend to subside within a week.
• In more severe cases, E. coli infection can result in a type of kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). HUS most often occurs in children under the age of 5, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune symptoms.
• Symptoms of HUS include fever, abdominal pain, pale skin, fatigue, small bruises, bleeding from the nose and mouth, and decreased urination.
